The Oyo State Government has disclosed that it has paid over N37 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff since the assumption of office by Governor Seyi Makinde in 2019.

This was revealed on Wednesday the State government on its official facebook page, saying the chairman of the Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, announced development during the disbursement of N3 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

“The Oyo State Government has paid over N37 billion in gratuities and death benefits to retired primary school teachers and local government staff since Governor Seyi Makinde assumed office in 2019,” the post read.

According to the post, the N3 billion was disbursed to retirees under the state and local government pension scheme on Tuesday.

Ige further explained that the payment process has been decentralised across the state’s geopolitical zones to reduce the stress and financial burden on pensioners who would otherwise have to travel long distances to access their entitlements.
