Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has dissolved the Gombe State Executive Council, directing all commissioners to hand over the affairs of their ministries to Permanent Secretaries not later than April 10, 2026.
The decision was announced on Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, in Gombe, following an extraordinary council session that reviewed the administration’s performance over the past two and a half years of the governor’s second tenure in office.
Njodi said the council undertook a post-mortem of governance activities and concluded that the administration recorded excellent results, but noted that evolving political developments necessitated the dissolution of the cabinet.
He explained that the move would provide a level playing ground for members of the executive council and other political appointees who may wish to pursue elective positions ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to the directive, all commissioners were to hand over the affairs of their respective ministries to Permanent Secretaries on or before Friday, April 10, 2026, while other political office-holders and aides intending to contest elections were required to resign within the same timeframe.
The SSG added that the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing council members for their dedication, loyalty and contributions to the administration’s development agenda, noting that their collective efforts had led to achievements across various sectors.
He also conveyed the governor’s best wishes to the affected appointees in their future endeavours and urged continued support from the media and the public for government programmes.
