To strengthen public sector governance and improve service delivery, the Taraba State government has inaugurated a State Steering Committee for the Human Capital, Opportunities, Productivity and Governance (HOPEGov) Initiative.
HOPEGov is a World Bank- supported initiative designed and funded to address constraints and strengthen basic education and primary healthcare services across the state.
The state commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Sarah Enoch Adi, said the initiative represents a strategic step towards building efficient, transparent and accountable institutions capable of delivering tangible development outcomes to the citizens.
Adi explained that the HOPEGov programme was designed to enhance governance systems by promoting human capital development, expanding opportunities, boosting productivity and empowering citizens through coordinated and evidence-based policy implementation.
“Today marks another significant step in our collective commitment to strengthening governance, improving service delivery and ensuring that development outcomes truly reach our people.
“The HUBGov program, as we are aware, is designed to enhance human capital, opportunities, productivity and empowerment through improved governance systems.
“It’s aligned perfectly with our administration’s vision of building a state where public institutions are efficient, transparent, accountable and responsive to the needs of citizens.
“As the ministry responsible for finance, budget and economy planning, we understand that good governance is the backbone of sustainable development. Without strong systems, clear processes and coordinated planning, even the best policy cannot translate into real impact and this is why the HUBGov initiative is timely, strategic and essential.”
The Finance Commissioner stated that the newly inaugurated committee would serve as the driving force for the implementation of the initiative at the state level, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment with government development priorities.
“Today we are inaugurating a steering committee that will serve as the engine room for driving this initiative at the state level. The individuals selected are not only experienced and competent, but also deeply committed to the development of our state. Your mandate is clear.”
She urged members of the committee to provide strategic direction for the implementation of HUBGov and to ensure aligning with state development priorities, strengthening coordination across MDAs, promote transparency, accountability and advanced-based decision-making, monitor progress and ensure timely delivery of results.
“This is not a ceremonial assignment, it is a call to service, one that demands dedication, collaboration and innovation.
“The success of HUBGov in our state will depend on your leadership, your integrity and your ability to work as a team. Let me assure you that the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Economy Planning will provide all necessary support to enable this committee to function effectively.
“We will work closely with development partners, MDAs and stakeholders to ensure that the objectives of this programme are fully realised,” she said.
Dr. Adi reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Agbu Kefas’ administration to strengthening governance systems and ensuring that public resources are efficiently managed for the benefit of all citizens.
The inauguration of the HOPEGOV Steering Committee is expected to accelerate governance reforms and enhance the delivery of social and economic services across Taraba State.
