Taraba State Police Command has nabbed an activist, Abdulmumin Imam, over the allegations he made against the executive secretary of the Taraba State Emergency Management Agency (TSEMA), Dr Echuseh Audu.
He had alleged diversion of relief materials meant for vulnerable persons against Audu, Imam was reportedly arrested in Abuja by operatives of the State’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He is known for criticising the state government and exposing alleged irregularities and corruption, particularly among public officials.
His social media posts have also targeted key government figures, including Governor Agbu Kefas, the minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu.
Following the allegations, Audu submitted herself to relevant security and investigative agencies for interrogation.
She submitted herself to the Taraba State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, as well as the Chamber of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
Audu, who supervises the distribution of humanitarian assistance to internally displaced persons and low-income households, urged the agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly.
Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Victor Mshelia, said Imam is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation by CID operatives in the state.
However, Imam, in a post on his Facebook page, alleged that his arrest was carried out on the instruction of the TSEMA Executive Secretary.
“I have just been arrested by men of the CID, Taraba State Police Command, led by an officer identified as Fala in Abuja, on the instruction of the ES of Taraba SEMA.
“He slapped me and pushed me into the car for asking him to identify himself. Tarabans should know that I cannot be silenced,” he added.
