Nasarawa Amazons Coach Demands Improvement After Remo Stars Win

Nasarawa Amazons head coach, Christopher Danjuma, has issued a stern wake-up call to his players, insisting that their overall performance must improve dramatically despite securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Remo Stars Ladies.

The game, played at the Lafia City Stadium on Wednesday, was far from convincing. The Amazons struggled to break down a resilient Remo Stars defense for most of the match, raising concerns about the team’s attacking fluidity.

The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time when Alani Jumoke held her nerve to convert an 87th-minute penalty, handing the home side all three points.

While relieved to take the win, Danjuma made it clear that relying on late spot-kicks is not a sustainable formula for success.

“We are working hard to improve, especially in converting our chances from open play,” Danjuma told the club’s media. “A penalty win is still a win, but it masks the problems we have in front of goal. We cannot keep waiting for late gifts from the referee.”

The coach also revealed that his squad is currently hampered by the absence of several key attacking personnel, which has forced him to rely on a reshuffled frontline. However, he stopped short of using injuries as an excuse, instead praising his team’s grit while demanding more creativity.

“It hasn’t been easy, particularly with some key attackers unavailable, but the team showed resilience,” Danjuma admitted.

“Resilience is good, but resilience without cutting edge won’t keep us in second place for long. We need to start hurting opponents earlier in games.”

Despite the underwhelming performance, the result lifted Nasarawa Amazons to second position on the NWFL table, keeping them firmly in the title race.

Danjuma now faces a race against time to sharpen his attack before tougher fixtures ahead.
