The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of a College of Medical Sciences at Adamawa State University, Mubi.

The NUC panel, led by Prof. Auwal Abubakar, while briefing the state government on its findings ahead of the college’s take-off, made a case for manpower to match the 24 proposed departments.

Addressing the visitors, the deputy governor, Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, said that plans for the establishment of the college had been in the pipeline.

She assured the state government’s committee of the state government’s continued support for the project’s realisation.

According to her, the health sector remains a top priority of the Governor Ahmadu Fintiri-led administration.

The deputy governor underscored the importance of partnership, noting that establishing the college would expand healthcare delivery to the people.

Earlier, the NUC panel, which visited a specialist hospital to assess the possibility of upgrading it to a teaching hospital, was also at the state university in Mubi, where its members expressed satisfaction with the facilities and equipment on the ground.

The visit followed Adamawa State University’s application to establish the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, noting that preparations for its establishment had gone far.

The host and vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Clement Augustine, commended Governor Fintiri for supporting the establishment of the College of Medicine.
