A teacher, Isah Sallama, has been critically injured after suspected motorcycle robbers severed his hand during a violent attack in Bunkure local government area of Kano State.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night along the Funkuyi Road in Buran District, was confirmed in a statement issued by Nasiru Habu Faragai, Secretary for Public Enlightenment of the Rano Emirate Council of Kano State.
Faragai explained that the victim, a resident of Sarkin Bakar Rano, was attacked while attempting to assist another individual, Malam Sauwanu Hadi, who was being robbed of his motorcycle and mobile phone.
According to the statement, the assailants initially attempted to shoot Sallama, but their firearm malfunctioned.
“When the gun failed, they resorted to using a machete and cut off his hand, leaving him in a critical condition,” Faragai said.
The incident was subsequently reported by the District Head of Bunkure, Alhaji Aminu Isa Umaru, to the Emir of Rano, HRH Muhammad Isa Umaru.
Reacting to the development, the Emir described the attack as disturbing and ordered that the matter be escalated to security agencies for a comprehensive investigation.
He also approved a donation of N100,000 to support the victim’s medical treatment.
The monarch further called on community leaders and security operatives to intensify efforts to tackle robbery and other criminal activities in the area.
