Nollywood star and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has weaponised her long-standing rivalry with Lizzy Anjorin, using a viral parody skit to drive ticket sales for her latest cinematic release, The Return of Arinzo.
The “Queen Mother” of Nollywood released a video mimicking Anjorin’s signature voice and dramatic gestures, a direct clap-back after Anjorin publicly questioned Ojo’s ownership of the film project. Rather than a formal rebuttal, Ojo donned a promotional T-shirt for the movie and turned the accusations into a marketing tool, a move fans have described as “cleverly catching cruise.”
The feud between the two Yoruba screen icons, which has historically involved legal suits and bitter social media exchanges, reached a new fever pitch this week. However, Ojo appears to be winning the publicity war, announcing that the film is already screening to packed halls in Ghana and Liberia, with a UK premiere set for April 25.
