Armed bandits reportedly killed many people in Bunkasau village under Zarummai ward of Bukkuyum local government area of Zamfara State on Friday night.
The attackers, estimated to be over 80, arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on residents, and abducted several people, mostly women, and stole livestock.
One of the villagers who spoke on grounds of anonymity in an interview said the attack occurred late night.
According to him, residents are still searching for missing persons.
He called on the federal and Zamfara State governments to come to their aid by deploying security personnel to the area to restore peace.
Police spokesman DSP Yazid Abubakar confirmed the incident, noting that the casualty number was unspecified.
According to him, the command has deployed adequate personnel to the area to restore normalcy.
DSP Yazid Abubakar urged the communities to always cooperate with the police by providing accurate information on the movement of the bandits for prompt response.
