Following the recent attacks on Bagna and Yelwa via Erana in Shiroro local government area of Niger State, the state government has confirmed 14 people were killed by bandits while 110 bandits were neutralised.

The commissioner for information and orientation, Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, said the bandits were killed in various locations in communities in the local government area.

He said, “According to confirmed reports from security agencies, a total of 110 bandits were neutralised across several locations as they attempted to retreat under pressure from security forces. The breakdown is as follows:

Lantan Village (Erena Ward) – 47; Lakupe (Kwaki Ward) – 21; Luwidna (Kwaki Ward) – 16; Farin Kasa (Allawa Ward) – 20; Rafin Barden Dawaki (Kurebe Ward) – 6.”

Nana said these outcomes underscored the effectiveness and resilience of the joint operations currently underway to dismantle criminal elements and restore order in the affected communities in Shiroro local government area.

He said 14 people including vigilante members, the commander in Bagna and two civilians lost their lives during the attacks.

He said the state government deeply regretted the loss of brave personnel and innocent lives in the course of the operations.

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the area.

He disclosed that a coordinated and sustained response by the joint security team comprising the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS) and local vigilante volunteers had begun to yield significant results in ongoing clearance operations.
