Former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel has issued a stark warning to Arsenal, asserting that if the Gunners fail to secure the Premier League title this season, it will not merely be another near-miss, but will be remembered as the single greatest collapse in the competition’s history.

Speaking on the Obi One podcast following a disastrous weekend for Mikel Arteta’s side, the ex-Super Eagles captain offered a candid assessment of Arsenal’s title aspirations. His comments followed Arsenal’s crushing 2-1 home defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, a result that has thrown their season into jeopardy.

Compounding the Gunners’ misery, reigning champions Manchester City capitalised fully on the slip, thrashing Chelsea 3-0 to cut Arsenal’s once-comfortable lead at the top of the table to just six points. With only a handful of games remaining, the momentum has shifted dramatically.

“These Arsenal players have to understand this is their moment,” Obi Mikel stated. “If they don’t win the Premier League this season, it’s probably going to be the biggest disaster in the history of the Premier League for them.”

He emphasised the sheer scale of the opportunity lost. “It’s going to be the biggest disaster for them because right now, if they had won that game against Bournemouth on Saturday, it would have been a 12-point gap. Twelve points! With that many games left, you’re practically lifting the trophy.”

Instead, Obi Mikel accused Arsenal of taking their “foot off the gas” at the worst possible moment. “They relaxed. And Manchester City? They don’t relax. They came right back, and right now it’s six points. That gap can disappear in two weeks.”

The former Chelsea man, who understands the pressures of winning titles, concluded that “bottling” this race would haunt Arsenal for a generation, far worse than any previous collapse in Premier League history.
