Rivers Community Lauds Navy Over Free Medical Outreach

The people of Ikpokiri community in Ogu/Bolo local government area of Rivers State have lauded the Nigerian Navy, for organising a one-day medical rhapsody in the community.

They particularly lauded the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Awwal Ibrahim Gambo, for reach out to the community, which is one of the host communities of the Nigerian Navy units and establishments.

LEADERSHIP observed that over 1,000 members of the coastal community benefitted from the medical outreach, which was organised by the Nigerian Naval College, Onne, in conjunction with the Nigerian Navy Medical Centre, Onne.

The medical rhapsody featured health talks, free medical consultation, free drugs and free blood test as well as free eye test, distribution of free eyeglasses and insecticide treated mosquito nets.

Speaking to newsmen during the exercise, a community leader in the area, Chief Livingstone Worika, said under Gambo, the community has enjoyed very cordial relationship with the Nigerian Navy.

Worika said, “We want to use this opportunity to thank the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral AZ Gambo, for bringing medical rhapsody to our community.

“We know that he has been doing this to other Navy host communities but we are happy that as a host community, he remembered us. We have had a very cordial relationship with the Nigerian Navy for several years. The Nigerian Navy here has always carried us along in everything.”

Also, the Commander of the Nigerian Navy Medical Centre, Onne, Captain Aliyu Oyineyi, said the medical rhapsody was part of Nigerian Navy’s corporate social responsibility to its host communities.
