Oyo State chapter of the African Democratic Congress party (ADC) has rejected the outcome of a parallel congress allegedly held by a rival faction last Saturday, declaring it null and void.
Speaking on behalf of the party in Ibadan on Wednesday, the state chairman, Yinka Olona, said the only recognised congress was the one conducted at the party’s secretariat in line with the ADC constitution and relevant provisions of Nigeria’s Electoral Act.
He maintained that the exercise followed due process and reflected the will of duly accredited members.
Olona described the parallel convention as unauthorised and inconsistent with established party procedures, alleging that those behind it lacked the constitutional backing to organise such an exercise under the ADC platform.
He, therefore, urged party members, stakeholders and the public to disregard any claims, announcements or leadership structures emerging from the said faction, stressing that only decisions taken by recognised organs of the party remain valid and binding.
