The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Ismail Abba Yusuf, has issued a strong warning to stakeholders over the spread of misinformation concerning Hajj visa issuance and operational timelines, cautioning that such actions could jeopardise the integrity of the entire pilgrimage process.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement session, Yusuf stressed that Hajj operations are governed by a strictly regulated framework established by Saudi authorities, leaving no room for unofficial interventions or last-minute alterations.
He explained that the Kingdom’s system is meticulously structured, covering critical components such as visa processing, flight scheduling, accommodation, sanitation, and other logistical arrangements required to manage millions of pilgrims from across the globe.
According to him, claims suggesting that NAHCON can manipulate or reopen visa portals outside the officially approved schedule are entirely false and potentially harmful. He warned that such narratives mislead intending pilgrims and undermine public confidence in the commission’s work.
“Some individuals misinform the public that NAHCON can influence visa approvals or reopen portals beyond official timelines.
This is not only incorrect but also damaging to the credibility of the system,” Yusuf stated.
The NAHCON boss noted that the spread of inaccurate information often creates unrealistic expectations among prospective pilgrims, leading to confusion, frustration, and, in some cases, financial loss. He emphasised that adherence to verified procedures is essential to ensure a smooth, transparent Hajj.
Yusuf therefore called for greater collaboration among all stakeholders, including state pilgrimage boards, tour operators, and the media, urging them to prioritise accuracy and consistency in their communications. He highlighted the importance of presenting a unified message to the public in order to avoid conflicting reports.
He further warned that individuals or groups found disseminating unverified information risk damaging both institutional credibility and their personal reputation, particularly in an era where information can be easily cross-checked.
Reaffirming NAHCON’s commitment to efficient service delivery, Yusuf stressed that disciplined information management and strict compliance with official guidelines remain key to the successful coordination of Hajj operations.
