Senator Ali Ndume has condemned the killing of six soldiers and several civilians by Boko Haram terrorists in Mussa village, Askira Uba LGA of Borno State.
Ndume, who represents Borno South, described the attack as tragic and called for renewed military action to secure communities still under insurgent threat.
He urged the Federal Government to equip troops and strengthen intelligence to prevent further loss of lives.
The attack on Mussa is the latest in a series of raids targeting military positions and villages in southern Borno.
The incident took place at about 12 noon on Wednesday when insurgents attempted to infiltrate a military location in the area.
Sources also said scores of the terrorists were neutralised in the foiled encounter.
Ndume, who confirmed the incident to our Correspondent in Maiduguri on Wednesday, commiserated with the victims of the attacks, even as he reiterated his calls on the Federal government to fully equip the military, police, and other security agencies with sophisticated weapons to end Boko Haram atrocities.
“Our Nigerian Armed Forces are doing their best in fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, but they are handicapped in terms of weapons.
“There is an urgent need for the federal government to Train, Equip, Arm, and Motivate (TEAM) the military forces.
“Our military and other security agencies should have access to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, fighter jets and drones if we really want to end Boko Haram madness”. Ndume posited.
He, however, commended the Nigerian Military and other security agencies, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters/Vigilantes, for their unwavering sacrifices and commitment in the fight against terrorism.
He also extended his sympathies to the families of the fallen heroes and prayed to God to grant their Souls Aljannatul Firdaus.
In a related development, troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attack by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Benisheikh in Borno State, preventing a possible overrun of the area.
Sources said the incident occurred at about 2315 hours on 14 April 2026.
The sources stated that troops of Headquarters 29 Task Force Brigade came under attack from the insurgents but successfully contained the assault and forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray.
According to the sources, no soldier was killed in the engagement, while three personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
The injured soldiers were evacuated to the 7 Division Medical Services and Hospital for treatment.
The military said the number of terrorist casualties could not be immediately confirmed, adding that exploitation of the general area was ongoing to track fleeing fighters and assess the extent of damage inflicted.
It noted that the overall security situation across the theatre of operations remained calm but unpredictable.
