Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 election, Mr David Sabo Kente (DSK), has declined endorsement from his political associates to contest the 2027 governorship in Taraba State.
At a meeting with political associates drawn from across the 16 local government areas in Wukari, the Taraba-based philanthropist turned down the offer by the associates to buy his expression of interest and nomination forms.
Kente, who is the founder, David Sabo Kente Foundation (DSK-F), had a robust session with the groups, who were DSK political structures from the localities.
He explained that the meeting was convened to review the group’s political journey, assess current realities, and provide a platform for the associates to express their views, particularly on governance at the state level.
While emphasizing the need for unity and inclusiveness, Mr. Kente commended the Central and Northern zones for supporting the Southern district for serving eight years tenure, and extending the same support for another eight years.
According to him, the prevailing political arrangement calls for a shift, and stakeholders must demonstrate the capacity to improve the living conditions of the people across the state.
He disclosed that a committee would be constituted to articulate the outcome of the consultations and communicate the group’s position to the public in due course.
The philanthropist also lauded the resuscitation of the Jukun Youth Day and the Nwonyo Fishing Festival, describing both events as unifying platforms capable of strengthening peaceful coexistence in the state.
He recalled his role as chairman of a previous edition of the Jukun Youth Day and commended the organisers for sustaining the initiative.
Kente added that the Nwonyo Fishing Festival remains a significant cultural heritage for the people and expressed optimism that the events would further promote unity, peace and relative calm.
The meeting, attended by former APC SWC, stakeholders and supporters, also expressed concern by some participants over alleged exclusion from party affairs.
