The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has foiled a child trafficking plot and rescued a 15-year-old girl in Kwali Area Council of Abuja.
The victim, who hails from Ebonyi State, was allegedly abducted and sexually abused before being rescued by operatives of the Command.
According to the FCT Command spokesperson, DSC Monica Ojobi, the breakthrough followed a report of the sudden disappearance of the teenager, which was lodged at the Kwali Central Divisional Office.
She said the Command’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit acted swiftly on the report, leading to the arrest of a 46-year-old suspect, Anyanwu Daniel, from Imo State.
Preliminary investigations, Ojobi said, revealed that the suspect held the victim captive for about two weeks and subjected her to sexual exploitation.
She added that the suspect had perfected plans to traffic the minor to Libya for child labour before he was intercepted by NSCDC operatives.
Describing the operation as a significant success, Ojobi said it reflects the Command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons across the FCT.
She warned that the Corps would continue to go after individuals and networks involved in such crimes, stressing that no effort would be spared in ensuring justice for victims.
Ojobi also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, especially those involving minors, to security agencies.
“The suspect and the victim have been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution. The statement added.
