Brentford missed a chance to ascend into the top six as they were held to a goalless draw by west London rivals Fulham in a lacklustre derby.

Despite a series of missed opportunities, including a shot off the goal frame from top scorer Igor Thiago and a glaring miss from Keane Lewis-Potter, the Bees secured their fifth consecutive draw. This result keeps them in contention for European qualification while also snapping a streak of three straight defeats against their Thames-side rivals.

The match also served as a nostalgic moment for former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, who attended for the first time since his sacking by Tottenham in February. Observing from the stands alongside club owner Matthew Benham and sporting director Phil Giles, Frank likely reflected on his career choices as Brentford has flourished since his departure last summer.

Fulham, also vying for European qualification, struggled with slow starts this season and nearly fell behind in the 10th minute when Mathias Jensen’s cross found Thiago, whose header grazed the post. Shortly after, Thiago attempted to turn Calvin Bassey in the penalty area, but Joachim Andersen intervened with a perfectly timed block.

The Cottagers had a golden opportunity to take the lead when Alex Iwobi and Tom Cairney set up Ryan Sessegnon, but the full-back lifted his shot over the bar. Iwobi later limped off with a hamstring issue just before half-time.

In stoppage time of the first half, Lewis-Potter squandered a prime chance by dragging the ball back only to blast over from six yards.

Brentford pressed first in the second half, with Ouattara getting a shot off that was parried by Leno. Mikkel Damsgaard followed suit with an ambitious volley from distance that went just wide.

As time dwindled, Bees captain Nathan Collins came close to scoring on his 100th appearance for the club, but his header missed the target. Fulham’s Harry Wilson escaped a booking for a reckless challenge on Damsgaard, with no foul awarded.

In the dying moments, Ouattara delivered a low cross, but Leno’s remarkable point-blank save ensured the match ended in a stalemate, preserving a point for the visitors.
