The leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has approved Option A-4 for the conduct of the party primaries for the purpose of selecting candidates for the various elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
According to the party’s code of conduct read to the APGA members at a meeting in Awka by the national chairman, Chief Sly Ezeokenwa and affirmed by the national leader and governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, the code was designed to ensure transparency.
According to the code of conduct, all incumbent officials of the party at all levels are barred from participating in the primaries.
Aspirants for the party’s tickets were barred from hosting APGA leaders anywhere outside the party’s offices, and are not allowed to give t them gifts as such would be deemed as intended to compromise them for undue advantage in the primaries.
Soludo in his speech emphasised that transactional politics should be discouraged in the conduct of the affairs of the party as such encourages extortion of aspirants.
He said there were many long standing members of the party who had not been able to contest elections under the party’s platform while some would just come into the party and use money to hijack tickets, arguing that such practices were undemocratic and counterproductive to the growth of the party.
The governor also urged the members to align with the party that would win the presidency in the election, saying it was politically counterproductive to vote for a candidate who might not win the presidency.
The APGA national chairman praised Soludo for the support he had been giving to the party leadership, adding that the achievements of the administration had also brought huge popularity to APGA.
But members of the APGA Board of Trustees, Pastor Betty Uzoma, South East national vice-chairman, Augustine Ihemere, national youth leader, Eze Onyebuchi Chukwuma, national woman leader, Lizzy Ogochukwu in their respective speeches complained that poor funding was stunting the growth of the party.
