The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday formally acknowledged the declaration of Yerima Shettima, to contest the Kaduna Central senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

Shettima made his declaration at the APC State secretariat in Kaduna, where he said his ambition was driven by the need to deliver purposeful and accountable representation to the people of Kaduna Central and Kaduna State.

He stressed that his aspiration was not motivated by personal ambition alone, but by a commitment to responsible leadership and effective representation, pledging not to make promises he cannot keep if elected.

“I will not let the party, the State, and Nigeria down if given the opportunity. APC remained strongly positioned to retain the seat if it presents credible and widely acceptable candidates,” he said.

Shettima also pledged loyalty to the party leadership, expressing confidence that his political engagement would help deepen APC structures and strengthen grassroots mobilisation across Kaduna Central.

He commended president Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kaduna State governor Uba Sani for their efforts in repositioning governance at both federal and State levels, noting that ongoing reforms were gradually restoring public confidence.

In his remarks, Kaduna State APC Secretary, Hon. Abubakar Rabiu Abubakar, welcomed the declaration and described Shettima as one of the party members actively driving youth inclusion and grassroots engagement within the APC structure.

He said the development reflects the party’s commitment to internal democracy and open competition, adding that such openness would further strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.

Abubakar further stressed that the party requires committed and visible loyalists who maintain consistent engagement at the grassroots level, noting that such mobilisation remains central to the APC’s electoral strength going into 2027.
