Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation Of Minister, Yuguda As CBN Deputy Governor

President Bola Tinubu has requested the confirmation of the Senate for the appointment of Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Wednesday.

President Tinubu had on Tuesday removed Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside Ahmed Muda Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development.

Tinubu, in the letter, stated, “In compliance with the provisions of Section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to forward to the Senate for confirmation the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

He urged the Senate to give the request expeditious consideration.

Following the reading of the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action.

In a separate communication, President Tinubu also sought the confirmation of the Senate for the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In the letter, the President said the nomination was made in accordance with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007.

He wrote, “I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

Tinubu added that he trusted the senate would consider and confirm the appointment expeditiously.

The senate president thereafter referred the request to the Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions for further legislative review, with a report expected to be returned to plenary within one week.
