Coalition Demands Transparency In Probes, INEC Processes

A political group, Coalition for Project Rescue Nigeria, has called for transparency and due process in probes and trials of some Nigerians, especially in the ongoing investigation and prosecution of former attorney-general of the federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami.

It also called for measures to strengthen confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission.

At a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the group’s director-general, Ismail Isah Ohiare, said the coalition was concerned about public perceptions surrounding the handling of cases involving political actors.

Ohiare noted that ensuring fairness, openness and adherence to the rule of law in such matters were critical to sustaining public trust in key institutions.

“We urge that all actions by relevant institutions should be guided by fairness, transparency and the rule of law,” he said.

The coalition also called for measures to strengthen the electoral body’s credibility ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.

According to him, strong and independent institutions remain vital to Nigeria’s democratic stability.

He advised the judiciary and the electoral body to maintain clear boundaries regarding the internal affairs of political parties, noting that party autonomy is essential for democratic development.

The coalition appealed to all stakeholders to uphold democratic principles and ensure that governance processes remain inclusive, credible and transparent.
