UNIPGC Clarifies Status, Says It’s Not Affiliated To UN

The United International Peace and Governance Council has issued a formal public notice reaffirming its organisational identity and distancing itself from any claims of affiliation to the United Nations (UN).

The clarification comes amid growing public interest in the Council’s expanding presence across Africa, Europe, and North America.

In a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Abuja by the Global President and Chairman of the UNIPGC Supreme Council, Dr. Jonathan Ojadah, the organisation described itself as an independent civil society organisation (CSO) and non-governmental organisation (NGO), emphasising that while it upholds the ideals and principles of the United Nations, it was not an entity, agency, or organ of the global body.

According to the notice, the Council maintained continental chapters in countries including the United States, Germany, Canada, and several African nations, where it coordinates peace-building initiatives, governance advocacy, and community development programmes.

A key focus of its operations, the Council said, is the promotion of Sustainable Development Goal 16, which centres on peace, justice, and strong institutions.

It noted that its programmes were designed to strengthen transparency, civic participation, and conflict resolution at both local and regional levels.

To expand its engagement, UNIPGC disclosed partnerships with organisations such as the United Nations Association of Nigeria and the United Nations Association of Ghana, aimed at advancing initiatives aligned with global peace and governance ideals.

The Council also confirmed diplomatic relations with the International Organisation for Economic Development, an intergovernmental organisation, noting that the partnership was intended to enhance international cooperation on economic and governance issues.

Addressing possible misconceptions, the organisation stated: “For the avoidance of doubt, UNIPGC is not an entity, agency, or organ of the United Nations, and has no authority to represent the United Nations in any capacity.”

The Secretariat urged the public and the media to refer to the organisation by its full name and to avoid describing it as the United Nations or “UN,” stressing that such distinctions were necessary for accuracy and accountability.

Observers said the move reflects UNIPGC’s efforts to strengthen its institutional identity and credibility as it expands globally. With activities spanning governance reform, youth empowerment, and peace education, the organisation has gained increased visibility in recent years.

The Council noted that the clarification also serves as a trust-building measure with partners and donors, positioning it as a transparent NGO operating within international civil society standards rather than a quasi-governmental entity.

UNIPGC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the promotion of global peace and good governance, emphasising that while it supports United Nations principles, it operates independently.
