Zamfara State Governor Dr. Dauda Lawal has charged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state to make productive use of their service year by acquiring vocational skills and participating in entrepreneurship programmes aimed at tackling youth restiveness in the country.
The governor gave this charge during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members at the NYSC Orientation Camp, UBE Training Centre, Bypass, Gusau yesterday.
Lawal who was presented by the permanent secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Nasiru Galadima Kaura, reassured corps members that their safety and welfare remained a top priority of his administration.
“We have put in place adequate measures in collaboration with security agencies to ensure that you are safe and well protected throughout your stay in Zamfara State,” he said.
The governor emphasized that the NYSC scheme remained a vital instrument for fostering national unity, integration and development.
He urged corps members to actively participate in all camp activities, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, designed to equip them with practical skills for self-reliance.
Zamfara State NYSC Coordinator, Mallam Muhammad Lawan Ahmad, commended Governor Lawal for his visionary leadership and continued support to the scheme and corps members deployed to the state.
Similarly, Kaduna State governor, Uba Sani, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state of adequate security, urging them to remain vigilant and law-abiding throughout their service year.
He gave the assurance at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II corps members held at the temporary orientation camp, Government College, Kaduna yesterday.
Represented by the commissioner for youth development, Barrister Esther Ibrahim, Sani congratulated the corps members on the successful completion of their academic programmes and charged them to approach the orientation course with seriousness and a sense of purpose.
He described the orientation programme as a critical platform for instilling discipline, leadership values and national consciousness, stressing that participants must take full advantage of the opportunity to prepare themselves for the demands of national service.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare and security of corps members, noting that necessary measures had been put in place to guarantee their safety.
“Security is a collective responsibility. You must remain conscious of your environment and promptly report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities”.
State coordinator of the NYSC, Efeke Murna Dadaza, disclosed that a total of 2,315 prospective corps members comprising 901 males and 1,414 females were sworn in for the exercise, including those redeployed from the Federal Capital Territory.
She commended the corps members for their orderly conduct during registration and encouraged them to adhere strictly to camp rules while participating actively in all activities designed to equip them physically, mentally and emotionally for the service year.
