New FMC Hong Begins Clinical Services

The new Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Hong in Adamawa State has begun clinical services for the treatment of major and minor surgeries and various other ailments.

The medical director, Prof Yakubu Wilberforce Nyandaiti, said the upgrading of the hospital has bridged the gap in the challenges being faced in the health service delivery in the northern zone and Cameroon Republic.

Yakubu, a professor of neurology, lauded the federal government for the gesture, saying the hospital has 23 bed maternal and child referral centers, a 14 bed accident and emergency unit.

The hospital, he further added has 22 body equipped mortuary, a functional oxygen plant with the capacity to supply 8.5 cubic units of oxygen per hour.

Earlier, in his remarks, the chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs in the House of Representatives, Hon Yusuf Buba, said the hospital would provide over 3,000 direct jobs in the area.

The lawmaker, representing Hong/Gombi federal constituency, also said the hospital would create other opportunities for the populace.

LEADERSHIP reports that the hospital is a 100-bed mother and child friendly complex with state-of-the-art equipment and 20 incubators, ultrasound machines, oxygen concentrators, ventilators and equipment theatre units with 120 KVA solar energy that power the complex.
