A major step toward transforming women’s football in West Africa began on Sunday as the CAF/WAFU-B Women’s Football Administrators Workshop officially kicked off in Abuja.
The three-day event, running from April 26 to 28, has drawn high-level football administrators from across the West African Football Union Zone B.
The workshop brings together Presidents of Women’s Football Commissions and Heads of Women’s Football Departments from all CAF Member Associations within the WAFU-B zone.
Their collective mission: to strengthen the administrative backbone of the women’s game and accelerate its development through coordinated regional action.
Key thematic areas on the agenda include improving football administration frameworks, sharing proven best practices from member associations, and identifying sustainable pathways for the long-term expansion of women’s football.
Particular attention will be paid to grassroots development, coach and referee education, and the creation of competitive league structures that can nurture talent from youth to senior levels.
The workshop also serves as a platform for aligning development visions across the sub‑region, ensuring that WAFU-B nations move forward with a unified strategy.
By fostering closer collaboration among football governing bodies, organisers aim to eliminate duplication of effort and unlock new opportunities for cross‑border partnerships, youth tournaments, and women’s football diplomacy.
Participants are expected to produce a concrete action plan before the close of the workshop on Wednesday, with follow‑up mechanisms to track progress.
