King Charles III and Queen Camilla have paid a solemn visit to the 9/11 Memorial in New York, leaving a handwritten message of solidarity for the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The royal couple, who are on an official visit to the United States, laid a wreath at the site where the Twin Towers once stood. The visit was part of a broader diplomatic itinerary aimed at strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and the United States.
In a personal note attached to the floral tribute, the King expressed his sympathies. He reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to standing with the American people in the face of global terrorism.
“In enduring solidarity and with deepest respect,” the handwritten message read.
During the visit, the monarch and the Queen Consort met with survivors and family members of the victims, including some of the first responders who served during the crisis. The King spent several moments at the North Pool, where the names of those who perished are inscribed in bronze.
The engagement underscored the long-standing shared history and cooperation between both nations on matters of security and remembrance.
Buckingham Palace stated that the visit was an opportunity for the King to honour the memory of the nearly 3,000 lives lost, including 67 British citizens who died in the attacks. Diplomatic observers have described the royal visit as a significant gesture of international friendship.
