A former special adviser to the Kebbi state governor, Dr Kabiru Sani-Giant, has obtained the All Progressives Congress(APC) nomination forms to challenge ex-Governor Adamu Aliero for the 2027 Kebbi Central Senatorial District election.
Aliero who served as governor of Kebbi state between 1999 and 2007 and a minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is a serving fourth term senator.
However, Sani-Giant speaking with journalists after he obtained the APC forms in Abuja said, he is in the race to challenge the former Kebbi governor whose has not performed up to expectations.
“My name is Doctor Kabiru Sani Giant, a former adviser on politics and energy to governor Idris Gwandu of Kebbi state. I am here to obtain my forms to compete with the incumbent senator, Adamu Aliero.
“The issue is that, what have they done for the society? What have they done for their communities? That is what we are challenging them for.
“If they have anything that they have done for the community, for the Kebbi Central, let them come out boldly and say it to the people. It is people that are going to vote now, and the people are tired of this thing, their dealership. So they want a new breed that can come out and at least carry everybody along,” he said.
Sani-Giant also kicked against the consensus mode of primary election as it would not give the people chance to nominate who they want and opted for direct primaries.
He said: “We don’t want a consensus. With this direct primary, it is the people that vote for who they like and who they don’t like. So we are ready to go for the primaries, and we are ready to face any challenge that is coming up.
“Why should I go for consensus? When my people are waiting for me to go and queue for me to vote for me, then I will go for consensus for what? What do they have to offer people?”
