Workers in Osun State have demanded the abolition of casualisation of workers by employers of labour and called for safer workplaces.

While also urging employers to invest in training so that workers can compete globally, they advocated respect for labour unions to facilitate robust dialogue when necessary and prevent strikes.

Speaking at the gathering of workers at Olorunda local government premises, Osogbo, as part of activities to mark the 2026 ‘Workers Day’, the chairman, Association of Concerned Local Government Workers in Osun, Comrade Adebayo Adekunle commended President Bola Tinubu for approving financial autonomy of local governments in the country.

He however charged workers to be disciplined, productive in service, reject corruption, improve service delivery and protect public assets adding that the same hands that demand accountability must also model it.

Also, the chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Abiodun Idowu described ‘May Day’ as a day of reflection on the dignity of labour, the value of hard work, and the enduring contributions of workers to the growth and development of mankind.

Idowu urged workers to remain committed to excellence, discipline, and accountability in the discharge of their duties, urging them to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism and ensure that the trust reposed in them by the people is not betrayed.

He also lauded President Tinubu for granting autonomy to local government and gave assurance that the gesture will impact positively on infrastructural development at grassroots level.
