Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has announced a formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), citing prolonged instability and unsuccessful efforts to restore unity within the party structure.
Announcing the defection at the Government House in Bauchi yesterday, Mohammed said the decision followed extensive consultations and reflected a responsible step to provide Bauchi people a viable political alternative amid what he described as an unusual and challenging situation.
The governor emphasised that joining the APM at the state level aimed to secure electoral victory while safeguarding the interests of his supporters and maintaining continuity in governance.
He said members of the State Executive Council had resigned, with plans underway for online membership registration across wards and local governments, describing the move as strategic rather than retreat.
Receiving the governor, the national chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, highlighted the party’s commitment to integrity, sacrifice and service as core principles guiding its operations nationwide.
Dantalle noted that the party demonstrated grassroots strength in previous elections, winning councillorship seats and described it as an egalitarian platform that respects members while fostering inclusive participation in governance.
