The Zamfara Central Women’s Progressive Awareness Forum has restated its commitment to advancing women’s education, empowerment, unity and trauma counselling services across communities in Zamfara State.
This was contained in a statement signed by its assistant publicity secretary, Aisha Abubakar Sadiq, after yesterday’s congress meeting, where 22 members were inaugurated into various leadership positions.
The representatives were drawn from four local government areas of Gusau, Tsafe, Maru and Bungudu, who were elected through a consensus process.
At the event, the forum’s founder, Comrade Usman Umar, emphasised the importance of sustained efforts to empower women, particularly those in vulnerable communities.
He noted that education remains a critical pathway for improving the lives of women and girls, while empowerment initiatives can foster self-reliance and active participation in community development.
Umar also highlighted that the forum operates under a constitutional framework designed to guide its activities across the four local government areas. He expressed appreciation to the forum’s legal adviser, Barr Firdausi Aminu Baba Salati, for her dedication to developing the guiding constitution.
According to him, the forum’s initiatives were specifically targeted at vulnerable groups, including women with disabilities, ensuring inclusivity in its programmes.
In her remarks, the newly elected chairperson, Rahama Sani Aliyu, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to work with members to achieve the forum’s goals. She described the role as one that requires sacrifice, sincerity and commitment, noting that the organisation was non-profit in nature.
Aliyu also urged the members to uphold mutual respect, regardless of differences in age, tribe, or religion, as a foundation for unity and progress.
Similarly, the forum’s secretary, Hauwa’u Malami Aliyu Yandoto, a pharmacist, stated that the initiative was established to promote social cohesion, economic development and peacebuilding among women in the region.
She stressed that women play a vital role in the society and that by coming together to share ideas and strategies, they can unlock economic opportunities, raise awareness and create an environment conducive to peace and sustainable development.
