The chief of staff at the Bauchi Government House, Hon. Aminu Hassan Gamawa and six commissioners have resigned from the State Executive Council (SEC) to pursue political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Those who stepped down include Yakubu Adamu (Ministry of Finance and Economic Development), Abdurrazaq Nuhu Zaki (Ministry of Water Resources), Hajara Yakubu Wanka (Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management), and Isa Babayo Tilde (Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Hon. Faruk Mustapha (Ministry of Rural Development and Special Duties), among others.

Following the resignations, Governor Bala Mohammed approved immediate redeployments and assigned supervisory roles to some cabinet members to oversee the affected ministries pending the appointment of new commissioners.

In a statement issued yesterday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mukhtar Gidado, Hashimu Yakubu, the principal private secretary (PPS), was directed to supervise the Office of the Chief of Staff.

The Governor also deployed former commissioner of education, Dr. Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayam as Commissioner for the Ministry of Power, Science and Technology.

Additionally, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hassan Usman El-Yakub, SAN, will supervise the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Usman Usman Shehu, will oversee the Ministry of Water Resources.

Similarly, the Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule, has been assigned to supervise the Ministry of Rural Development and Special Duties, and Amina Muhammad Katagum, Commissioner for Budget, Planning and Multilateral Coordination, will oversee the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.

Furthermore, Mohammed Sadiq Shira, Commissioner for Cooperatives and SMEs, will supervise the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, while retired DIG Sani Mohammed, the Chief Security Adviser to the Governor, will oversee the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

While wishing the outgoing officials well in their future pursuits, Governor Bala Mohammed urged the redeployed officials to take full responsibility for their assignments and leverage their experience in managing the ministries.   He also directed them to work closely with permanent secretaries to ensure continuity in governance.
