2027: Ex-Kebbi Gov Bagudu Submits Forms For Successor’s Second-Term Bid

A former governor of Kebbi State, Senator Atiku Bagudu, has led stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the state to submit the expression of interest and nomination forms for his successor, Dr. Nasir Idris, who is seeking the party’s ticket to contest for a second term in 2027.

While there is often bad blood between most former governors and their successors, Bagudu, who handed over to Idris in 2023, is pushing for his re-election, signifying a cordial relationship between them.

Addressing journalists after the submission, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, said the APC, both at the state and national levels, is providing a level playing field for aspirants to pursue their ambitions.

The former chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum applauded the decision of the APC national leadership to extend the sale and submission of forms to give more aspirants the opportunity to complete the process.

“I am part of a large entourage from Kebbi State that came to witness the submission of the expression of interest and nomination forms of our governor for his second-term bid, Dr. Nasir Idris, consistent with our party’s tradition and Nigeria’s democracy, where all parties—particularly our party—give everyone a level playing field.

“I am very proud that the party is proving its mettle again in this process, where people are allowed to come forward freely to express their interest by purchasing forms and exercising their democratic rights.

“We can see that on a number of occasions, even the sale of forms was extended, meaning the party is determined to ensure that everyone who wishes to contest has a fair chance to do so.

“This is not surprising, because four years ago, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu freely participated in the primaries with several other contestants, as that is the tradition of our party,” he added.
