The Boulos family and SCOA Nigeria Plc have issued a cease-and-desist notice demanding the immediate removal of social media videos they described as “malicious, scandalous, and highly defamatory.”

In the pre-action notice signed by their lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro (SAN), the Boulos family and SCOA claimed that the videos distort facts by alleging that the clients improperly benefitted from funds related to the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road Project.

The lawyer stated that these claims are “unfounded, baseless and a figment of the author’s imagination.

Pinheiro also denied that the clients received any funds from government or private sources connected to the project.

The senior lawyer maintained that the allegations harm his clients’ reputations and business interests and demanded the prompt removal of all related content, warning of legal action if the order is not complied with.

Pinheiro further demanded the immediate removal of all offending materials. including videos, posts, and any derivative content and called on individuals, bloggers, and media platforms to desist from further circulation or amplification of the allegations

The clients are prepared to pursue defamation claims for damages and to consider criminal complaints under Nigeria’s cybercrime laws, particularly the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Amendment Act, 2024, which covers cyberbullying, harassment, and digital defamation.
