A women’s rights advocate and aspirant for the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, Hon. Mopelola Bashir, has promised to fix identified developmental gaps in the constituency if given the mandate to represent the people in 2027.

Bashir, a former Commissioner for Women Affairs, is contesting the House of Representatives ticket under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

For Asa Local Government, where she hails from, the aspirant highlighted the need for human capacity development, the repair of deplorable roads, the provision of clean drinking water, and mitigation of the 2025 climate-induced farming disaster in the area.

In Ilorin West, Bashir, who acknowledged that the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has done more for women, insisted that there is still a need for more women to be economically empowered.

She also said it is the turn of Asa Local Government to produce the next candidate for the Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency, noting that permutations within the APC ahead of the 2027 general election suggest that the next candidate for the Kwara Central Senate seat will emerge from Ilorin West.

She pledged to leverage the experience she garnered from serving in the executive arm of government, as well as her understanding of legislative business, to provide quality representation for her people.

LEADERSHIP reports that Bashir is a key figure in Kwara’s civic and democratic advocacy space, serving as Gender Coordinator of Kwara Must Change, a pro-democracy movement known for shaping civic participation, youth engagement, and gender equity conversations across the state.
