Eight students of the Faculty of Engineering of the Nasarawa State University have been abducted, sources in the school disclosed this to LEADERSHIP yesterday in Lafia, the state capital.

The students, according to one of the sources, were abducted from an off-campus residence in Gudi, Akwanga local government area, on Wednesday night.

The source said, “Yes, it is true that eight students of the faculty of engineering in Gudi have been kidnapped, but I’m yet to get an official directive to speak to you on that.”

The state police command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident.

He, however, said six students and a friend of one of them were affected whose identity could not  be immediately ascertained.

Nansel said the police had intensified efforts to secure the students’ release.

He said, “On 6th May, 2026, at about 21:00 hours, the command received a distress call reporting that a group of armed hoodlums stormed a students’ lodge located at Anguwar Ninzo, Gudi, on the outskirts of the town. During the incident, some students were reportedly abducted and taken to an unknown destination.

“So far, six victims have been identified, all of whom are students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, alongside one other victim who was reportedly visiting one of the students at the time of the incident.

“Following the development, the commissioner of police, Nasarawa State Command, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment and reassured the students, the residents, and the university community of the command’s unwavering commitment to the safe rescue of the abducted victims.

“To strengthen ongoing operations, the commissioner of police has redeployed the area commander, Akwanga, to coordinate field operations in the area pending the rescue of the victims. In addition, a combined security team comprising personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilante groups and other tactical units of the command has been deployed to intensify efforts at tracking down the abductors, rescuing the victims unhurt and bringing the perpetrators to justice.

“The command urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and security conscious, while appealing to anyone with useful information that could aid the ongoing operation to promptly report to the nearest police station or any other security agency.

“Further updates will be communicated as rescue operations and investigations progress,” he said.
