Bauchi State government has flagged off its 2026 statewide fumigation exercise aimed at combating mosquito and other waterborne diseases.
At the take-off held in Gwabba in Bauchi metropolitan yesterday, the commissioner for Housing and Environment, Hon. Dallami Ahmad Kawule, urged traditional and religious leaders to sensitise residents on the importance of maintaining clean and healthy environments.
The commissioner also advised parents to strictly observe safety precautions by staying away from fumigated areas for at least three hours because of the effects of the insecticides used during the exercise.
Represented by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Engri. Yamai Mohammed, the commissioner cautioned the residents against dumping refuse into drainage channels to ensure the free flow of water, especially during the rainy season.
He commended Governor Bala Mohammed and other relevant stakeholders for their support towards the successful implementation of the exercise.
In separate remarks, the director-general of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Dr. Mohmood Bose, and the Director of BACATMA, Isa Muhammad Bello, said the fumigation exercise would cover all the 20 local government areas of the state.
The officials pledged their commitment to ensuring the success of the programme and appealed to residents to cooperate fully in order to achieve its objectives.
They also expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for his prompt support to BASEPA and BACATMA, which they said has enabled the agencies to effectively carry out their responsibilities to the people.
