The Eastern District of Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) has begun the reclaiming of its rights of way in the South East in collaboration with the state governors, the manger, Francis Ezuike, has said.
Ezuike announced this when he inspected the ongoing recovery of the NRC rights of way on Amuzukwu-Umuwaya Road in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
He explained that in view of this, the NRC had been sensitizing the public against building of structures and trading along the way, which he described as unacceptable.
He further said the federal government would soon bring back railway transportation in the zone and also begin the extension of railway line from Aba to Enugu.
The manager, NRC Property Umuahia, Patience Ifeanyi expressed delight over the recovery and the ongoing development of the state under Governor Alex Otti.
Also, the general manager of Umuahia Capital Development Authority, Kingsley Agomo said the state has cordial relationship with the NRC and is building a seamless transportation system.
He explained that the ongoing recovery would stretch from Shoprite axis to Aba Park, which the authority is beautifying to enhance the aesthetics of the capital.
Agomo added that Okigwe Park had been provided for traders around Ishi Gate to move into temporarily, pending the completion of the relief market at Afaraukwu Ibeku.
