As part of political realignment, prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, have dumped the party, making moves to join another party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Those who have resigned from the party included Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo citing the need to pursue his governirship ambition on another political platform, due to the unresolved crisis at the national level of the PDP.
Oguntoyinbo said the lingering internal crisis within the party (PDP) could pose legal challenges to his aspiration in the long run.
In a resignation letter dated May 6, 2026, and addressed to the Oyo State chairman of the PDP at the party’s secretariat in Molete, Ibadan, which was made available journalists on Thursday, Oguntoyinbo said his decision followed “extensive consultations and careful reflection” on his political future and ideological direction.
The letter, routed through the PDP chairman of Ward 8, Osengere in Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, marks a significant political development within the party in the state.
“I am writing to officially notify you of my decision to resign from the membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” he stated in the letter.
The politician, who has remained active in political discourse and youth-oriented development initiatives across Oyo State, stressed that his decision was not driven by personal ambition, but by the need to avoid possible legal disputes that could affect his aspiration.
“This decision comes after extensive consultations and careful reflection on my political direction, particularly in relation to the broader state and national vision of unity, progress, and sustainable leadership that I remain deeply committed to pursuing,” he said.
Also, the member representing Ibadan North-west/Ibadan South-west federal constituency of Oyo state in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Stanley Olajide, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The resignation of the federal lawmaker, popularly known as Odidiomo, was conveyed in a letter dated May 5, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP, Ward 11, Ibadan south-west local government area of Oyo state.
In the letter, Olajide said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters and constituents.
According to him, the decision, though difficult, became necessary in view of prevailing realities within the party structure and his desire to continue pursuing his political aspirations and commitment to public service in an atmosphere that guarantees inclusiveness, stability and progressive engagement.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser, Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha.
Olajide noted that since joining the PDP, he had committed himself wholeheartedly to the growth and electoral success of the party, which culminated in his emergence and re-election as a member of the House of Representatives.
The lawmaker expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the party across various levels for the support, trust and opportunities extended to him during his stay in the PDP.
“I remain profoundly grateful to the leadership and members of the party across all levels for the support, trust and opportunities extended to me over the years,” he stated.
He further stressed that his resignation was taken in good faith and without bitterness, adding that he still holds members of the party in high esteem and would continue to value the relationships built over the years.
Another member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central federal constituency, Anthony Adepoju has announced his decision to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adepoju, who is currently serving his second term in office, announced this decision in a letter of resignation addressed to the PDP Chairman in his ward.
The lawmaker, in the letter on Thursday, cited the prolonged internal crises as the reason for his decision, saying that the PDP crises had affected his performance negatively.
Adepoju also disclosed that the crises had created cracks within the party, saying “I regret how this resignation may be received by my millions of followers at home and abroad and I assure everyone that my next political move will be made known in due course”.
The Executive Chairman of Oluyole loal government, Engr. Akeem Olatunji, has also resigned his membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
His resignation was contained in a letter dated May 5 and addressed to the ward 7 chairman, Mr Mojeed Raji Iyan.Olatunji, who currently serves as chairman of the local government, announced his resignation in a letter reportedly addressed to the leadership of the party in his ward.
Though details surrounding his next political move remain unclear as of press time but it was gathered that it may not be unconnected with ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and growing internal disagreements within the party structure at the national level.
Olatunji thanked the leadership of the party at all levels for what he described as a rare privilege to serve the people in different capacities on the platform of the PDP.
He specifically thanked the state chairman and vice chairman, Hon. Dayo Ogungbenro and Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke for their support and guidance at all times.
He particularly expressed gratitude to Otunba Seye Famojuro, whom he described as his political benefactor, committed to the advancement of his political career.
