2027: Orette Warns Against Re-electing Underperforming Politicians

The Delta South Senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Austin Orette, has urged voters not to re-elect public office holders who failed to deliver during their first term in office.

Orette, in a statement issued on Friday in Owhelogbo, Isoko North Local Government Area, said rewarding poor performance with another term would continue to slow development and weaken public confidence in governance.

According to him, Nigeria’s leadership crisis persists because competent individuals are often excluded from governance while political power is controlled by people he accused of prioritizing personal interests over national development.

The senatorial hopeful said Nigerians in the diaspora should not be sidelined from political participation, arguing that many have acquired experience and exposure that could contribute to national growth.
“It is parochial to assume that Nigerians abroad have nothing meaningful to offer in rebuilding the country,” he said.

“At times like this, all hands must be on deck to move Nigeria forward. Countries like China and India made progress by utilizing the knowledge and capacity of their citizens both at home and abroad.”

Orette also highlighted the economic contributions of Nigerians living overseas, noting that diaspora remittances continue to support many families and businesses across the country.

“The remittance of the Diasporas is helping to sustain the economy,” he stated.
The NDC candidate further reflected on his political journey, saying he previously invested time and resources in building the All Progressives Congress (APC)
structure in Delta South before leaving the party.

According to him, changes within the party influenced his decision to pursue his political ambition on another platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

Orette maintained that his aspiration to represent Delta South in the Senate is based on what he described as a desire to offer effective representation and contribute to national development.

He also called on voters to prioritize competence, accountability and visible development projects over party loyalty and political sentiment during future elections.

“The only claim to fame for some leaders is the opportunity to enrich themselves while citizens continue to suffer,” he alleged.

The senatorial aspirant said he would continue engaging with communities across Delta South to present his vision and address issues affecting the region.
