Sultan of Sokoto and president general, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has charged Muslims to have a true and deep understanding of their religion.
The Sultan stated this on Friday through the president of Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) and deputy president general (South) Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo at the commissioning of Asiwaju Khamis Olatunde Badmus Central Mosque in Osogbo.
According to the foremost monarch, religious understanding should produce disciplined, compassionate and enlightened Muslims who build peace and not destroy it.
“Let me give my Muslim brothers and sisters some advice. Let us make efforts to understand our religion properly. True religious understanding should produce disciplined, compassionate and enlightened Muslims who build peace and not destroy it.
“Religion should transform us inwardly, turning intolerance into friendship, hostility into love and conflict into collaboration. In essence, we become agents of peace and reconciliation,” he said.
The Sultan called for the maintenance of the mosque adding that its beauty must be sustained.
“May I therefore strongly advise that the maintenance of the Mosque should be accorded top priority if we are to show appreciation and sustain the beauty of the edifice and maximise our reward from Allah, the Most Beneficent. In specific terms, I hereby advise Asiwaju to endow this mosque.
Dignitaries at the commissioning include former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Oluwole of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Yusuf Ali (SAN) and prominent Islamic scholars from across the country.
