Nigerian Afrobeats star, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has been selected to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The world football governing body, FIFA, confirmed the lineup of artistes for the global event via a statement on its official social media platforms. Rema will headline the ceremony alongside global superstars including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, Tyla, and LISA.
According to FIFA, the selection of these artistes is intended to reflect the cultural diversity and influence of the United States, which is a co-host of the tournament.
“The Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles represents the extraordinary scale of what the FIFA World Cup 2026 will become,” the statement read.
The announcement follows the recent unveiling of the official theme song for the tournament, titled ‘Dai Dai,’ by Colombian singer Shakira featuring Burna Boy.
The 2026 World Cup is scheduled to kick off on June 11, 2026, with the opening match taking place at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, while the major celebratory performances are slated for Los Angeles.
