The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has announced the expulsion of former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku over alleged anti-party activities and action deemed to be detrimental the progress of the party.
Maku joined the SDP last month as a result of what he referred to as lingering crisis in his erstwhile party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The former minister is working towards contesting the Nasarawa North Senatorial seat made vacant by the demise of late Senator Godiya Akwashiki.
Also expelled for the same offences include the member representing the Keffi/Karu/Kokona Federal Constituency in House of Representatives, Mr.Gbefwi Gaza and a prominent chieftain of the party in the state, Adamu Ningah.
The information on the expulsion was contained in a statement issued by the secretary-general of the party’s Forum of State Chairmen, Danlami Muhammed Musa on Saturday.
The statement was said to have emanated from the Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam-led leadership of the party.
The Forum reaffirmed Gabam as the party’s authentic, legally recognized, and undisputed National Chairman, whose leadership is duly recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and reflected on the commission’s official records and portal.
The Forum, however, acknowledged and appreciated efforts by some members of the National Working Committee and other stakeholders who have initiated reconciliation moves aimed at strengthening unity within the party.
It maintained that the SDP under the leadership of Shehu Gabam remains open to genuine dialogue anchored on truth, legality, and respect for established leadership.
The statement reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal democracy, discipline, accountability, and the rule of law while urging members nationwide to remain steadfast and aligned with the recognized leadership of the party.
However, when contacted for his position on the matter, the former minister said he is not aware of the sack.
“I’m just hearing of the development from you,” the former minister simply replied.
