The Council of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) have called for stronger protection against rising cyber threats.

The professionals said this is part of efforts to build a resilient and inclusive digital economy capable of driving national growth and competitiveness.

President of the council, Dr Essien Eyo, stated this on Friday during a virtual press conference ahead of its 2026 IT Professionals’ Assembly and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Abuja.

Eyo said the increasing rate of cyber threats, economic disruptions and rapid technological changes had made it imperative for Nigeria to strengthen its digital infrastructure and policies to safeguard the nation’s growing technology ecosystem.

According to him, the 2026 edition of the IT Professionals’ Assembly, themed “Digital Resilience and Inclusion for Smart Economy,” would provide stakeholders with a strategic platform to examine emerging digital risks and resilience strategies, while also promoting inclusive digital policies and ethical technology deployment.

He said; “In an era defined by rapid technological change, cybersecurity threats, economic disruptions, and evolving digital demands, resilience ensures that digital infrastructure, policies, and institutions can withstand shocks and sustain growth.

“At the same time, inclusion guarantees that no segment of society, regardless of geography, gender, age, or socioeconomic status, is left behind in accessing digital opportunities.”

He noted that the event, which is the twentieth edition of the annual gathering, would hold in hybrid format at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, Abuja, from May 13 to 14, 2026.

The CPN president described the assembly as the flagship of all Information Technology programmes in Nigeria, bringing together senior IT decision makers, consultants, entrepreneurs, start-ups, teachers, systems administrators and other professionals within the sector.

He said the conference would also serve as an avenue for technology firms and service providers to showcase innovative products and emerging technologies shaping industries globally.

Eyo further stressed that digital resilience remained critical in an era marked by cybersecurity threats and evolving digital demands, adding that Nigeria could not afford to leave any citizen, institution or region behind in accessing digital opportunities.
