A police sergeant has been detained in the custody of the Ekiti State Police Command for acting in a manner suggesting he was under the influence of hard drugs.
The officer currently serving at the Ikole-Ekiti Division Police Headquarters, the command said, would be made to undergo disciplinary proceedings.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Sunday Abutu, in a statement said, “The command has noticed a disturbing video circulating on social media where an officer in a camouflage uniform was seen behaving erratically, suspected to be under the influence of an illicit drug.
“Upon noticing the video, the command swung into action, identified the officer, arrested him and took him into custody,” he said.
Abutu, in the statement made available to reporters in Ado-Ekiti, however, said that the officer had been in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, Mr Michael Falade, has ordered that the police officer be subjected to psychological and medical evaluation, preparatory to the commencement of disciplinary actions against him.
The CP unequivocally stated that the behaviour portrayed by the policeman in the video does not depict the standard discipline of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
While urging members of the public to remain calm, he reiterated the CCommand’s unflinching commitment to protecting the lives and property of all residents of the State and to ensuring the best behaviour from the CCommand’s personnel at all times.
