NEDC Pledges Accelerated North East Recovery Through Infrastructure Investment

The North East Development Commission (NEDC), has pledged to accelerate the recovery of the North East through targeted investment in roads, schools, healthcare facilities and other public infrastructure.

The managing director , NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, said this in Maiduguri on Monday , while inspecting ongoing reconstruction projects in the state capital.

He said the Commission was supporting interventions including the construction of Moromoro market bridge, Fori bridge that were destroyed by flood in Maiduguri, faculty of Engineering , an auditorium hall at Borno State University, and the state head office, aimed at improving living conditions and restoring economic activities in communities affected by the conflict.

Alkali noted that years of insecurity caused extensive damage, making infrastructure renewal necessary for sustainable recovery in the region.

“Investments in roads, schools, healthcare, water supply and other public facilities are needed to support economic growth, improve living conditions and accelerate reconstruction across the region,” he said.

Alkali added that the projects were intended not only to rebuild structures, but also to restore livelihoods and support the resettlement of displaced persons.

He noted that improved infrastructure would help revive trade, improve access to basic services and gradually restore normal life in many parts of the North East.

The NEDC boss added that a stronger infrastructure base would boost internally generated revenue and support economic growth in Maiduguri and other states in the region.

He expressed confidence that the ongoing reconstruction efforts would contribute to long term stability and development across the North East.
