Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has ordered the procurement of 1,000 electric tricycles for youths across the state.

The move is part of efforts to reduce dependence on petroleum products and improve livelihoods.

The governor made the announcement  at the Mahmud Ribadu Square during the inauguration  of  an  electric tricycle assembly plant and rollout of electric tricycles in the state.

He said the initiative was in line with the Fresh Air administration’s commitment to improving people’s living conditions, especially youths, who he described as the backbone of society.

He explained that the state government entered into a partnership with companies such as Sparrow Mobility Ltd to address long-standing transportation challenges and create employment opportunities for residents.

According to the governor, the partnership has already started yielding positive results, as many electric tricycles assembled in the state have been inaugurated to support youth empowerment and economic growth.

He disclosed that the government would distribute the 1,000 electric tricycles to youths at subsidised rates to enhance transportation services and encourage economic self-reliance.

The governor further stated that more than 6,000 households across several local government areas in the state had already benefited from solar energy systems provided through the government’s renewable energy initiatives.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Commissioner for Transport Development, Wunfe Anthony, said the launch of the electric mobility initiative would significantly reduce operational costs for tricycle operators and improve transportation across the state.

She added that the partnership between the Ministry of Transport Development and the company had continued to produce positive outcomes in the transport sector.

In his keynote address, the Group Chief Executive Officer of A4&T Group, Ayodeji Ademilua, said his team visited Adamawa State in May 2025 to assess investment opportunities and explore possible collaboration with the state government on reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

He described the electric tricycles as symbols of sustainability, affordability, and economic growth, while commending Governor Fintiri for creating an enabling environment for investors.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, said about 35 megawatts of mini-grid capacity had already been developed across Adamawa State, with more projects underway.

He attributed the achievements recorded in the renewable energy sector to the commitment of Governor Fintiri’s administration.

In their separate remarks, the representative of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Adamawa State, Dr Barth Nyalas, and the General Manager of Adamawa Sunshine, Muhammad Tukur Abbo, described Governor Fintiri as a transformative leader and commended his administration’s development initiatives.
