Ghanaian actress and fashion icon, Nana Akua Addo, has dismissed allegations of intellectual property theft regarding her “cathedral-inspired” gown worn to the 12th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).

The rebuttal follows claims by a Paris-based designer, ALmee Couture, who alleged that the actress “stole” the artistic vision and structural detailing of the architectural masterpiece after receiving a refund for the initial project.

Responding via her official social media handle, Addo clarified that although she reached out to the fashion house, the creative direction remained her personal intellectual property.

She explained that the partnership ended because the designer was unwilling to execute the complex details she envisioned. “You mentioned that you didn’t want to execute it the way I envisioned because of how detailed my ideas were, a refund was made, and I eventually got someone else to create it,” the actress stated.

Addo further questioned the designer’s claim to the work, asserting that the entire concept and mood board were hers. “The entire concept and creative direction were my intellectual property,” she added.

The “cathedral” outfit, inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, remains one of the most talked-about fashion moments from the 2026 AMVCA red carpet.
