Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Tinubu and Uba Sani to immediately release former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Atiku described El-Rufai’s continued detention as “cruel, unjustifiable, and deeply troubling,” especially as Muslims across the country prepare for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the former vice president condemned what he called the use of state institutions to intimidate perceived political opponents.
According to him, the detention of the former Kaduna governor was inconsistent with democratic principles, civil liberties, and the rule of law.
Atiku further warned against actions capable of undermining public confidence in democratic governance, insisting that no Nigerian should be deprived of freedom because of political differences.
The former PDP presidential candidate urged the Federal Government and Kaduna State authorities to ensure that justice and due process prevail in handling the matter.
