The Youth Party (YP) has launched a nationwide grassroots mobilisation campaign ahead of its ward, state, and national congresses, as part of preparations for its 2026 National Convention.

The party said the exercise is aimed at expanding membership and deepening political participation across communities nationwide.

According to its timetable, ward and local government congresses will hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026, followed by state congresses on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, while the national convention is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos, party official Solomon Oyekunle said the Youth Party positions itself as an alternative platform for Nigerians seeking a new approach to governance.

“We are not here to ask for a seat at the old order’s table. We are building a new table. The Youth Party isn’t a waiting room for 2027; it’s the emergency room for Nigeria now,” Oyekunle said.

He said the party’s identity is defined not by age, but by commitment to competence and accountability.

“We’re not a retirement plan for career politicians seeking a soft landing. This platform is for builders and problem-solvers, whether they are 25 or 55,” he added.

As part of its mobilisation drive, members and volunteers have been engaging communities in markets, motor parks, workplaces, and religious centres, with a field coordinator noting that the party prefers direct community engagement over large rallies.

“We lack funds for crowds, so we support ourselves through direct community engagement,” the coordinator said.

The party also disclosed that a key feature of its national convention will be “The People’s Podium,” where citizens will present concerns gathered during a nationwide listening tour.

Oyekunle said the initiative is designed to enhance public participation in politics, stressing that “the era of politicians speaking and the people listening is over.”

He added that the convention will bring together delegates, volunteers, and first-time members from across the country, and will unveil the party’s first “Solution Squads,” described as community action teams focused on grassroots interventions.

The Youth Party said its mobilisation reflects growing political engagement among Nigerians seeking alternatives in the country’s political landscape.
